Alpens is renowned for its forged metal. Every two years it hosts a convention of metalworkers where they display their art working on a collaborative project for the community.

There are various small shops and bakeries, both in Alpens and in the neighbouring villages, and they provide a good choice of bread, wine, and other essentials of life.

Alpens maintains the tradition of the "festa major" where the whole village gets together to party with music, dancing and food.
Fireworks play an important role, as does the annual performance of the "versots", a very popular and very funny homemade production in verse satirising members of the community and events of the year.
